May/June 2012

Dear Michelle,

Welcome to the May/June issue of Advantage.

It’s hard to believe that the 2012 financial year is wrapping up and we’re about to launch head-on into FY13. At Kiandra we’re excited about what the new financial year will bring – we have already spoken to many of you about the new and exciting technology projects you have on the cards and are eager to sink our teeth into them. A lot of you are starting to think about upgrading to the much anticipated Windows 8, we’ve facilitated many discussions around migrating services to the Cloud, and security is creeping its way to the top of the priority list for most. Whatever your challenge may be, we’re happy to help and offer our advice.

In this issue we examine the Big Data phenomenon, delve into the solutions we provide to one of Victoria’s most critical organisations - protecting almost four million Melbourne residents, workers and visitors, as well as billions of dollars of assets and infrastructure – 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, we demystify Cloud and its various subsets, and show you a more efficient way of searching your email.

Are you making the most of your business data?

Big data is the new business black. It's a catch-all phrase for the billions of transactions and other bits of information businesses and governments log about their customers, suppliers and operations every day. Yesterday's storage problem has become today's strategic asset. There's gold in those files.

Enterprises are using data analysis not just to improve their everyday business processes, but also to build predictive models of consumer behaviour. Retailers, telcos, airlines, hotels, healthcare and credit card companies are among those with information-rich customer data.

Speak to us for more information around how you can harness your data and click here to read the full article, as reported in The Age.

You need to find an email in Outlook, you enter your search term (for example someone’s name) and Outlook returns hundreds of results including matches where the name appears in parts of the message’s body even though you meant to look for messages from that person. Outlook 2010 makes finding what you want easy by allowing you to enter other criteria to help narrow your search, such as whether it has an attachment or that it has a particular category applied. An overused word today, cloud is all about choice - giving you the freedom to choose how you run and pay for IT. Cloud encompasses many solutions and scenarios including private clouds, public clouds and hybrid clouds, and Kiandra can help you determine your cloud strategy, help you migrate to it, and manage and support it.
